This is an exercise that I have been concocting to help my self when I develop an artistic block.
1. Pick an audio piece. This can be a song, album, audio book, podcast, radio program, anything that is audio only. No visual stimulus. No reference.
2. Chose your medium, pencil, pen, scripture, watercolor, oils, pastels, color pencil, digital, what ever you do.
3. Now create an image based on what you hear, staying with in the time limit of the audio piece chosen. When the piece stops playing you must walk away from your image no matter where you are in the creative process.
List of what is best suited for various pieces chosen.
Song/single track (average song length is about 3 min): Quick sketches
Album/podcasts/radio programs (average album length is abut 45min): Detailed sketches.
Audio Books (average length hours if not days): "Finished" Pieces
The two key parts of this exercise are NO VISUAL STIMULUS and STAY WITHIN THE TIME LIMIT
